Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF-1) Program
Our NF-1 Program offers comprehensive, lifelong care for individuals with NF-1. Our expert clinicians conduct thorough patient assessments and collaborate closely with referring physicians and allied health professionals to ensure seamless care. Pediatric patients are seen at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, with campuses in Mission Bay and Oakland, while adult patients receive care at the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights. This team-based approach allows us to deliver personalized, comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
We understand that transitioning from pediatric to adult care can be a significant challenge. As one of the few centers in the country offering comprehensive care for both children and adults, we proactively support this transition process. Starting in the teenage years, we work closely with the UCSF Wellness Center for Youth with Chronic Conditions to set goals for medical care independence. Additionally, we facilitate overlapping transition visits, where pediatric and adult providers collaborate to ensure a smooth and supportive handoff.
Schwannomatosis Program
As the only Children’s Tumor Foundation-designated Comprehensive Schwannomatosis Program in Northern California, our Center is dedicated to providing expert care for individuals with schwannomatosis, including Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF-2). Pediatric patients are cared for at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals, with locations in Mission Bay and Oakland, while adult patients are treated at the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights. This collaborative, team-based approach enables us to deliver personalized, comprehensive care tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
Our team of schwannomatosis specialists includes neurosurgeons and otolaryngologists with focused expertise in managing tumors associated with schwannomatosis, such as vestibular schwannomas (acoustic neuromas), peripheral schwannomas, and meningiomas. We also offer advanced care in facial nerve reconstruction, audiology, and pain management. To ensure seamless and individualized treatment, cases are routinely reviewed by our Multidisciplinary Meningioma and Lateral Skull Base (Schwannoma) Tumor Boards, enabling coordinated and expert-driven care for every patient.
