Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are how new NF treatments become standard care. MEK inhibitors for plexiform neurofibromas reached patients through trials like these.

Our trial network

UCSF is a full-site member of the Neurofibromatosis Clinical Trials Consortium (NFCTC), a national network funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. We also open trials through the Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium (PNOC), the UCSF Brain Tumor Center, and industry partners.

What we study

  • Targeted therapies for plexiform and cutaneous neurofibromas
  • Treatments for NF1-associated low-grade gliomas
  • Therapies for vestibular schwannomas and other tumors in NF2-related schwannomatosis
  • Pain and quality-of-life interventions in schwannomatosis
  • Cognitive and learning outcomes in NF1

Find a trial that fits

Open trials change often, so we don't post a static list here. Contact our team and we will review which studies you or your patient may qualify for.

You can also search national listings at ClinicalTrials.gov and the Children's Tumor Foundation.

Taking part in a trial

Joining a trial is always voluntary. Our research team will explain the study, its possible benefits and risks, and what visits involve before you decide. You can leave a trial at any time without affecting your care.
